WELCOME TO THE DREAM FACTORY

WTTDF - About

The incredible story of Hollywood’s first Golden Age and the invention of the art of film scoring

MUSE/IQUE welcomes you to the golden days of early Hollywood, where audacious dreams were built on sound stages by actors, writers, composers, cinematographers, and directors and lit up for the world on silver screens.

In Hollywood in the early 1930s, silent films were suddenly bursting with new sound, skill, and storytelling, changing the cinematic landscape and studios like MGM, 20th Century Fox, and Universal Studios forever, and cementing Los Angeles as the most important cultural capital in the world.

The creation of Hollywood as a place for moviemaking magic was built upon a perfect crossroads of emerging technology and immigrant and Jewish artists fleeing oppressive rule across Europe. They brought new influences and turned a strange, well-oiled industry into a hub of sophistication and experimentation, producing timeless films like The Wizard of OzSunset Boulevard, and Casablanca. During a time of great turmoil in American history, they created art that provided the world with hope, inspiration, and dreams of what tomorrow might bring.

In this performance, MUSE/IQUE highlights the resilience and imagination that transformed Hollywood into a beacon of opportunity—creating a new home for displaced artists and providing an escape for audiences around the world. Through the lens of these pioneering filmmakers and the art they created, we explore how even in the darkest of times, fantasy and creativity can rebuild hope.
